Making Space
Held In Place by Mackenzie Beirnes-Daniels
The London Chamber of Commerce is proud to partner with the London Arts Council to bring Indigenous art into the heart of London’s business community. Through the Making Space initiative, the Chamber’s public spaces will host rotating exhibitions featuring Indigenous artists from London and surrounding First Nations.
More than an art display, this partnership creates an opportunity for cultural dialogue, education, and visibility. By showcasing Indigenous artists in a highly accessible and professional setting, Making Space is helping ensure that Indigenous creativity is celebrated, valued, and supported while strengthening connections between the arts sector, local businesses, and the broader community.

Held In Place
This exhibition brings together a collection of graphite works rooted in memory, family, and a deep connection to the land. Drawing from personal memories and family photographs, the works piece together fragments of lived experiences to create an intimate personal narrative and attempt to better understand my family’s history and heritage.
Alongside these recollections are studies of local flora and fauna found around my childhood home and its surrounding ravine. These familiar elements of the landscape become intertwined with my familial and personal history, documenting the environment that has been a consistent part of my life.
Together, the works consider the role that both family history and the places we grow up in play in shaping our memories and understanding of the past.
