The energy at RBC Place London was palpable this morning as business leaders, community partners, and eager Londoners gathered for one of the most anticipated events of our calendar: the 2026 State of the City Address.

From the buzzing networking breakfast to the main program, the room was filled with a shared sense of purpose. If there is one headline to take away from Mayor Josh Morgan’s address today, it is this: London is not just growing; it is thriving.

For those who couldn’t make it, here is a snapshot of the momentum building in our city and the key highlights from Mayor Morgan’s inspiring speech.

Building for the Future: Infrastructure & Housing

Mayor Morgan detailed incredible progress in preparing our city for the next generation. A staggering $310 million has been invested in infrastructure to support our rapidly expanding population.

A standout project mentioned was the downtown sanitary sewer expansion. While “sewers” might not usually grab headlines, this project is a game-changer, set to serve 17,000 future homes while utilizing methods that ensure minimal traffic disruption.

On the housing front, London is leading the pack. We are currently ranked #1 in the country for rental housing availability. Furthermore, the Mayor highlighted significant progress on homelessness, with new supportive housing units already in place and an upcoming affordable home-ownership program on the horizon.

Economic & Tech Boom

London’s business landscape is stronger than ever. The Mayor noted that 30 new businesses have opened in the last three years, a testament to our resilient entrepreneurial spirit.

Perhaps most exciting is our emerging status as a tech powerhouse. London now stands 4th on North America’s “Next 25” tech markets list, boasting an impressive 54.5% sector growth rate.

We are also seeing massive wins in manufacturing and job creation, with new facilities from Huffman Industries and Empack Spraytech, alongside a growing workforce at General Dynamics.

Culture & Downtown Vitality

Our creative sector is proving to be a major economic driver. With film and tourism revenues climbing and our UNESCO City designation driving cultural vibrancy, London is asserting itself as a cultural hub.

For our downtown merchants and visitors, the Mayor dropped a crowd-pleasing update: 2-hour free on-street parking in the core has been regained via the HONK app. This is a significant boost for local retailers and shoppers alike!
