Oakridge Ford and London community raise money through Drive One 4 UR Team event
Published on 17 June 2010 by Oakridge FordLONDON, Ontario, June 16, 2010 Ford Motor Company and Oakridge Ford will present a $5,320 cheque to Oakridge Secondary School this Friday at 11:30 a.m. as part of Ford's Drive One 4 UR School program Oakridge Ford sponsored in March.
"During a tough economy school fundraising is hit particularly hard," said, Mike Darling, at Oakridge Secondary School. "I'm moved by Ford's and Oakridge Ford's commitment to help our community."
Local community members put pedals to the metal and helped raise the money for the school by test driving an eligible Ford vehicle. Oakridge Ford worked with Oakridge Secondary School to host the one-day event on March 6. More than 260 people test drove Ford vehicles, and for each participant who came from a unique household, Ford and Oakridge Ford will donate $20 to the school for football uniforms and equipment that hadn't been paid for in almost four years.
"Supporting the London community is one of our core values at Oakridge Ford Lincoln," Darren Smyl, Vice President and General Manager of Oakridge Ford said. "We were proud to host a fundraiser where so many people came out and support Oakridge Secondary School."
The cheque presentation will take place at Oakridge Secondary School located at 1040 Oxford Street, West, London, Ontario N6H 1V4. Principal Grant McCumber, Mike Darling, the teacher who facilitated the program, and several students will receive the cheque. Darren and Mr. McCumber will be available for interviews before and after the presentation.
Since March 2010, Oakridge Ford and Ford Motor Company have donated more than $11,000 through Drive One programs in London, including the very first Drive One 4 UR Team event in North America. The monies raised during the Drive One 4 UR School and Team programs have helped fund extracurricular activities such as sports and school uniforms and supplies.
