Municipal Affairs Committee
Meeting Dates and Times
Second Thursday of the month at noon at the Chamber Meeting Centre.
Committee Objectives
- To support the Chamber's efforts to identify issues and effectively express the views of the business community to municipal government on matters relevant to London and area.
- To participate in the development of municipal policy as it effects economic growth and development for London.
- To maintain a healthy, mutually respectful working relationship with the City of London at both the Political and Administrative levels.
2011/2012 Program Plan
- The committee will identify local issues and express its views and recommendations to the Board of Directors on matters including (but not limited to) economic development, municipal finances, transportation, taxation, municipal governance and environmental issues
- The committee will monitor and report on potential emerging issues and develop the Chamber's position on such issues
- The committee will monitor public notices from the municipality where consultation is invited on business specific issues.
- The committee will produce a minimum of 4 policy related communications directed at the appropriate Municipal or Provincial office. Said communication pieces will be submitted to the Chamber's Board of Directors for review and approval in advance of sending.
- The Committee will make pre-budget recommendations to the City of London and conduct a post-budget analysis.
- The Committee will continue to act as the primary repository of information on issues pertaining to London Hydro, the Convention Centre, the LEDC and other City funded business entities and will, where appropriate, offer its views on their future sustainability in London.
- The Committee will monitor provincial and federal policies, regulations, and or legislation that directly impacts on municipal government.
- The Committee will invite featured speakers who will be of interest to the committee and whose expertise will add value to the committee's issue-specific policy work.
- The Committee will implement use of the Municipal Scorecard that was developed in the 2009/10 year.
Municipal Candidate Scorecard
The results of the London Chamber of Commerce's Municipal Candidate Survey Scorecard are now in.
This survey was based on five key business issues that Chamber members identified as their top priority issues going into this Municipal Election.
The London Chamber intends to use these results throughout the term of the next Council and compare them directly with electronically recorded votes in Council.
